New Ubiquiti Integrated Enterprise Controller

V4.1.1

Ubiquiti has released the 1st version of the new all-in-one controller.

In the past, there has been separate controller packages for:

  • UniFi-WiFi
  • UniFi-Video/airVision
  • etc.

The model is changing to one controller package that will integrate all of the Enterprise range of products into one controller. That means an admin can view and control all these products from one window:

  • UniFi-WiFi
  • UniFi-Video/airVision
  • UniFi-Security Gateway
  • UniFi-VoIP
  • EdgeSwitches
  • etc.

You can download and play with new V4.1.1 controller.

Today, the new controller is necessary if you have the new UniFi Security Gateway (USG). Read more below on the USG.

New Product Announcements

Ubiquiti has announced a number of new products recently.

UniFi-VoIP System

New VoIP Range

Ubiquiti has announced another extension to the UniFi Range: VoIP (Voice-over-IP) Phones.

Details are still not fully available on the exact functionality, but it certainly involves a PBX-style controller, and the common SIP protocol is supported, so should integrate with many existing VoIP systems.

Three handsets have been announced (but are not shipping yet).

UniFi Security Gateway

USG

Affordable Enterprise Network Security

Ubiquiti Networks introduces the UniFi® Security Gateway, which extends the UniFi Enterprise System to encompass routing and security for your network.

The UniFi Security Gateway combines advanced security features with high‑performance routing technology in a compact and cost‑effective unit.

Capable of routing up to 1 million packets per second, the UniFi Security Gateway can be easily configured through the intuitive UniFi Controller software, which also manages the UniFi Access Points for wireless networking.

Additional features include:

  • 3 Gigabit Ethernet ports*
  • 1 million packets per second for 64‑byte packets
  • 3 Gbps total line rate for packets 512 bytes or larger
  • Integrated and managed with UniFi Controller v4.x
  • Secure off‑site management and monitoring
  • CLI management for advanced users
  • Silent, fanless operation

* VoIP port is disabled and reserved for future use.

While all the features in this product are not 100% clear, it seems that if one of these devices is on-site at a remote location and has been 'adopted' over the WAN, then when other products in the UniFi family (Cameras, WiFi, etc) are added to the LAN they automatically appear as Ready for Adoption on the remote Controller screen.

ETA in Stock: We should have these in stock before the end of this month. Pre-order now.

New 5GHz Sector Antennas:
45 and 60 Degree

ac-sectors

These antennas are marketed as 'AC' sector antennas, implying they are exclusively for the new RocketM5-AC radios. In reality, these antennas will work with both the common RocketM5 and the newer RocketM5-AC radios. Equally, the existing range of 120 and 90 degree sector antennas will work with both the common RocketM5 and the newer RocketM5-AC radios.

Ethernet Surge Protector

ETH-SP

This is a simple, grounded surge protector. Ubiquiti has always recommended grounding the POE cable at the POE injector via the AC power lead, and within 1m of the outdoor unit for the airFiber products.

Soon they will be shipping a suitable product.

Meanwhile, we have in stock our GbE POE Surge Protector for this purpose.

Hint: XM vs XW?

New production of the standard airMAX products (NanoStation, Loco, Rocket, etc) is transitioning to the newer XW chipset (from the XM chipset). This change is simply because the XM chipset is no longer made by Atheros. As far as we can tell, there is no performance change.

What this means for you:

  • When you download new firmware for (eg) a NanoStation from Ubiquiti, you might notice there are two versions available: XM and XW.
  • XM firmware will not load in an XW device, and vice versa
  • To check if your device needs XM or XW firmware, go to the System tab, and see the name of the firmware file currrently loaded. It will be XM.... or XW .....

We now have both airMAX (airOS), and UniFi training courses available. The courses are each 2-days, and are booked separately. But in most cases, we will schedule them back-to-back so students can attend both in a 4-day stretch.
