High Speed Wireless-N Products
80 Mbps over 900m!
We now have a number of Wireless-N (802.11n) products - based on our new UltraWAP-N AP/Client. As usual - we worked closely with our suppliers to bring custom equipment into Australia that exceeds the performance of most common 802.11n equipment.
The 300 Mbps, 90 mW UltraWAP-N
A lot of people have been asking us when we would stock a Wireless-N AP product. The answer was: As soon as we have one that passes our internal testing. We received our first sample about 1 year ago. We rejected it, but gave the manufacturer a detailed test report. Since then we have worked with them to improve the product and get a product we were prepared to sell and support. The result is the 90 mW UltraWAP-N. Most Wireless-N gear transmits at 30 or 60 mW per antenna. The UltraWAP-N transmits at 90 mW per antenna - giving an increase in transmit range of 73% to 22% .
The UltraWAP-N has a wireless network speed of 300 Mbps. Our test LAN is limited to 100 Mbps, and we measured solid 91 Mbps data speeds.
Like the outstanding UltraWAP-G (which we still stock), the UltraWAP-N has great versatility with these modes:
- Access Point (AP)
- Station ('Client')
- Station ('Ad Hoc')
- Point-to-Point (Bridge)
- Multipoint-to-Point (Bridge)
- WDS (Wireless Distibution = AP + Bridge)
- Universal Repeater (=AP + Station)
If you want to upgrade the speed of your home wireless network (without the expense of changing your Modem/Router) - the UltraWAP-N is a great choice.

Long Distance?
Wireless-N networking is fast - but it requires multiple antennas to get the speed. So how do you do a 'long distance' link? Well - you could put two antennas at each end of the link. We tried that. Did not work very well. Or you could use the solution we settled on - use a single antenna housing, with two antennas built in - the TwinPol® Antenna. Each antenna is oriented 90 degrees from the other. Using TwinPol® Antennas, we got solid data speeds of
- 80 Mbps over 900m, and
- 60 Mbps over 1800m
As far as we know, you can not get those speeds from ANY equipment sold in Australia at the price point we offer.
We had our antenna supplier make a custom antennas to our specifications - which is why you will not find these antennas elsewhere. We have two models. Both are 2 x 12 dBi antennas.

The basic TwinPol® Antenna has two N-type antenna connectors on the rear. The AP is mounted separately from the antenna.
