EdgeMAX Router Series
Ubiquiti has announced a completely new product range; the EdgeMAX Routers.
In true Ubiquiti fashion, these are:
This report states:
Ubiquiti Networks' EdgeRouter Lite offers unprecedented price/performance value, providing more than 100X higher performance per dollar than the Cisco and Juniper products compared in this report. |
The first product announced is the EdgeRouter-Lite (ERLite-3), with 3-Gigabit Ethernet ports. Other products in the range will be announced over time. We expect to have the ERLite-3 in stock in November.

Use of the 3 GHz Band in Australia
All 3 GHz installations in Australia must be licenced by the ACMA, and are generally only for 'regional and remote' areas. But the advantages of using a licensed band include:
- No interference. Unlike the 'WiFi' bands, licensed links are generally free of interference.
- Longer and Cleaner connections due to Higher EIRP limits. For example, a 30 MHz channel @ 3.655 GHz can operate at up to 1530 dBm EIRP (Ref: RALI: FX19, sect 1.5). Compare this to the typical 36 dBm EIRP limits we see for 2.4/5 GHz 'Class Licence' (WiFi) networks.
For more infomation from the ACMA, please see:
If you are a regional WISP, you should consider the 3 GHz band.
Ubiquiti Price Rise Coming
|
Ubiquiti has announced a change in their product distribution out of China. This change takes effect in November-2012.
While the product prices are generally unchanged, Ubiquiti is passing on some of the packing/shipping costs that they used to absorb.
Our policy is to base prices on our actual costs. So, our prices will reflect these new costs only after existing stock has been exhausted.

AirFiber - 1400 Mbps Full-Duplex PtP Link
The interest in this 24 GHz product has been huge. People are placing pre-orders now.
We have a lot on order, and they will be into stock in late October.
What we know from Ubiquiti is:
- Ubiquiti started international shipments in Sept-2012
- The price in Australia will be around $4500/link. (This price is only an estimate).
- Customer testing in USA is seeing Full-duplex speeds of over 700 Mbps in each direction simultaneoulsy.
Also
- The ACMA does not allow us to operate in 24 GHz with the same EIRP (transmitter power) in Australia as in USA. So while we are allowed to use these, we will NOT get the 13 km range advertised in USA. We estimate a 3km (max.) range with no rain.
- The use these units in Australia is covered by the same 'Class Licence' that covers WiFi devices. That means you do not need a special license for each installation.
- Rain fade is an issue at this frequency, but there are plenty of sub-1km range links where this product should perform well in Australia
Due in stock: 4th Week October. Pre-order now!
